How to progress this program

Full body 3x/week is the highest-ROI program for any beginner. You touch every major movement pattern three times a week, which means three weekly opportunities for the nervous system to practice each lift and three opportunities to add weight.

The main lifts (squat, bench, deadlift, overhead press) are fixed sets of five, so they progress linearly in practice: when you complete every prescribed rep with sound form, the next session adds the smallest increment your plates allow, 2.5 kg (about 5 lb) by default. Beginners can usually add weight nearly every session for the first 8-12 weeks.

Accessory work is kept short and hypertrophy-biased (lateral raises, curls, RDLs) to drive size without burying the central nervous system. Top working sets stay at RPE 7-8 so you bank reps in reserve and recover for the next session.

Session-to-session progress stalls eventually, typically in months 3-6. If you come up short of the bottom of the rep range three sessions in a row, MuscleBuddy takes about 10% off that lift and you build back up from there. When those resets stop working, it is time for a program with more planned variation.

Frequently asked questions

Is full-body training good for beginners?
It is the highest-ROI choice for a beginner. Training every major movement three times a week gives three weekly chances to practise each lift and add weight, which is exactly what drives fast early progress.
How fast will I add weight on this program?
The main lifts are fixed sets of five, and each session you complete them all, MuscleBuddy adds the smallest increment your plates allow, 2.5 kg (about 5 lb) by default. Most beginners keep adding weight nearly every session for the first 8–12 weeks.
What happens when I stop progressing every session?
That is the normal end of the beginner phase, usually around months 3–6. After three sessions in a row short of your reps, MuscleBuddy takes about 10% off the lift so you can build back through the sticking point. When that stops working, move to an upper/lower or a percentage-based block.
